While I have a general positive opinion on this library, but the silent study areas are not very large enough and it is difficult to concentrate on ur study. Think needs some improvements.
Laidlaw is a recently opened library of the University of Leeds. It is a very modern library where you can find books to borrow or read, coffee shop to drink and socials and spend time in studying. I recommend it!
Amazing library, you just don't want to stop studying.
Not a successful project considering this is a work and study space for one of the largest universities in the country. Outside the comparatively small silent study areas and the massive, waste-of-space group study booths (that no real academic truly wants or needs), the majority of seats are useless cafe style setups with sofa seating or small tables that can barely hold a single book. Students don't need a big swanky lounge area, they need a maximum sized, functional study area for sitting, sprawling books out and getting serious work done. It's all form over function. The library has been built primarily as a social, 'group work' space, which doesn't cater to the majority of those who would choose to work in a library. Even during the less chaotic times of year it's a struggle to get seats in there. I gave up long ago.
Modern equipment, but not an absolutely silent place for studying.....
