Was recommended to visit the place by a fellow history buff and am genuinely surprised I never went sooner. Have been there 4 times in the past 6 months alone. If you are fan of any particular era of history (in my case classic antiquity through the middle ages to the Renaissance) then you could easily while hours away without realising. If you are not, you probably still could! Particularly the oriental and war galleries are must sees. Located by the quay in Leeds centre, expect hefty prices on parking and amenities. However it has a serviceable cafe and understanding and enthusiastic staff. Pizza Express and hipster bar outside if you fancy something different. Additionally has multiple themed events regularly throughout the year and the arena is certainly worth visiting when an event is on. If you are of an historic bent this is a must-visit. Even if not, still a very good day out! Please visit!!
Great facilities. Very interesting, informative and well presented talks on Richard III and trench hand to hand combat. Fantastic museum. And very nice food in the cafe at very reasonable prices.
Great experience. I have been coming here ever since I was little, over 10 years! Its always been free of charge and it is a fascinating day out. Me and my partner ave started going regularly again and its great to see and read all history over and over. It never gets boring! Its always quite busy, especially when we visit but it creates such a great atmosphere for the museum. Great for family and children. It does need a world war 2 section though! That would be great
I never stop being thankful for some of the amazing museums available free of charge to the British public. The armouries is no exception, plenty of variety and something to get your teeth into no matter your age, period of interest, or even level of interest! Anyone from a young enthusiast to a highly educated military historian can have a fantastic experience, with a huge variety of weapons, armour, battlefield recreations and other artifacts on show. As with all free-entry museums, they partially rely on generous donations made by visitors, but whatever you can spare is well worth a fantastic day out.
Wow!! The Armouries is a fantastic place to see the history of firearms over the ages. There's exhibits from other countries, armours and weapons. The crossbow range is worth a go, I think I need to have one of these now!!! You need more time than just a couple of hours to be able to look round it properly. Cafe and shop on site as well. Well worth a visit and the entrance is free....
